Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
