Around 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast woke up without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the region, bringing powerful gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Locals reported giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to handle the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately one thousand households in the southern state also faced power outages after the metropolitan area saw its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Wyndham - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At the height on yesterday, in excess of 28k power users in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were expected to linger along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after past events where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
